چکیده

Background and Purpose: White matter hyperintensites (WMHs) , lacunes brain atrophy have been demonstrated to be positively related gait disorder. However, cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) as a manifestation of small vessel disease (CSVD) is still under-investigated. Therefore, correlations between CMBs upper extremity, balance performance were investigated in this study. Methods: A cross-sectional study middle-aged older adults was conducted. CSVD burden measured with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) the location number analysed. Gait functions evaluated using four meter walkway, Tinetti, Timed-Up-and-Go (TUG) Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) tests. Upper extremity function by 10 repeated pronation-supination time, finger tapping opening closings hands. Results: total 224 participants included study, mean age 60.6 ± 10.5 years. The prevalence CMB 34.8% most lobar. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that associated lower velocity, wider stride width, longer TUG test poor on Tinetti SPPB tests independently other coexisting markers risk factors. These relationships appeared explained frontal, temporal, basal ganglia infratentorial regions. motor also had independent especially parietal, temporal areas, ganglia. Conclusions: found both gait, disturbances. presence seems another major driving force for impairment healthy elderly subjects.

Brain hemorrhage recurrence, small vessel disease type, and cerebral microbleeds

OBJECTIVE We evaluated recurrent intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) risk in ICH survivors, stratified by the presence, distribution, and number of cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) on MRI (i.e., the presumed causal underlying small vessel disease and its severity). METHODS This was a meta-analysis of prospective cohorts following ICH, with blood-sensitive brain MRI soon after ICH. We estimated annualiz...

Microbleeds Are Independently Related to Gait Disturbances in Elderly Individuals With Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

Background and Purpose—Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD), including white matter lesions and lacunar infarcts, is related to gait disturbances. Microbleeds (MB) are another manifestation of SVD, but their clinical impact remains unclear. We therefore investigated the relation between the number and location of MB and gait, independently of white matter lesions and lacunar infarcts. Methods—MR...

Cerebral Microbleeds Are Associated with Worse Cognitive Function in the Nondemented Elderly with Small Vessel Disease

BACKGROUND Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) is a leading cause of cognitive decline in the elderly. Cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) have emerged as an important manifestation of cerebral SVD, in addition to lacunar infarcts and white matter lesions (WMLs). We investigated whether the presence and location of CMBs in elderly subjects were associated with cognitive function, independent of lacunar...

Gait in elderly with cerebral small vessel disease.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Gait disorders are common in the elderly and are related to loss of functional independence and death. White matter lesions (WMLs) may be related, but only a minority of individuals with WMLs has gait disorders. Probably other factors are involved, including location and the independent effect of frequently coinciding lacunar infarcts, the other aspect of cerebral small v...
